I started Nicezines on Tumblr around 2012 whilst I was in university.
I was studying for a BA (Hons) in Book Arts and Design at the London College of Communication. The course was designed to develop a creative and innovative approach to the art and craft of designing and making books, as functional artefacts and art pieces. Sadly, LCC no longer offers that degree.
I love zines and at that time Tumblr was a great platform for sharing all the cool ones I came across whilst doing artistic research for my degree.
In 2017, I moved from Tumblr to Instagram and started to accept physical copies in the post.
As Nicezines grew on Instagram, I started to receive lots of messages with questions, like how do I find printers, where can I sell my zines etc. I love helping zinesters in any way I can, so It seemed like a great idea to start creating guide posts that answer those questions.
Fast forward to 2022, I was studying for a Master’s in Digital Marketing and Data Analytics and I realised I should probably make a Nicezines website. Then, in 2024 I finished my Master’s with a Distinction!
Long live the nice zines.
